I there any way for the work server to see a local shared folder. Chris, a client VPN connection is not all that stable , thus it is generally not the best connection for a backup as they often disconnect while transferring large amounts of data. That being said, it should work. Two possible problems. When you enable features like file and print sharing on a PC Windows automatically creates firewall exceptions. However, those exceptions are usually only for access by devices on the local network.

You may have to add the remote subnet, or at least for testing, disable the firewall on the client PC. That goes for any other 3rd party security software on the client PC as well. The other issue is routing. The device to which you are connecting, the server knows the return route due to the RRAS configuration, however when you ping the client PC it may not.

If so you should be fine but if not you may have to add a route on the PC. I can provide routing details if necessary. I managed to work out the IP address that the server had allocated my PC. Using that IP I was able to see my local share drive from the server. The obvious problem though is every time I log in I get a new IP address.

Verify that this computer is connected to the network, that these are the correct DNS server IP addresses, and that at least one of the DNS servers is running. I ran a personal hotspot from my iPhone on a domain computer that I’ve never logged on. From there I logged onto the original user and connected to Cisco Anyconnect using his credentials. The user should be able to login using the newly cached credentials. I asked user to login as local Administrator you can use any local computer account eg guest , if you dont want to tell user administrator password. It asked user to log off as administrator as another user wants to login remotely, once clicked ok, RDP session tried to login.

During this, as user logged off as local admin the vpn connection got disconnected automatically and I never got to see desktop screen on RDP session, the time it took to disconnect vpn was long enough for windows to sync user’s credentials.

RDP session got disconnected and the asked user to restart machine and login with the user credentials and it worked. I just found myself in this very situation and your trick is one of the best I’ve ever come across! Works like a champ!

I know this is a very old post. However, I would like to add that I used the suggestion from Rhall75 above and that worked for me. I had the user Login to the system as the old domain users credentials, connect to the VPN, switch user and login with their credentials.

Just for good measure, I had them restart the system. They were able to authenticate using their credentials. I work entirely remotely, and have been given some new credentials to create a new profile.
