The issue was on the OS level and not network. What i would like to know what dependency and system services are involved for DNS to resolve. The internet sites are fine and can be pingable but the issue is only with intranet.
I noticed a specific service called as NetLogon which failed to start. Does this service run even if the machine is not domain joined? All network troubleshooting on device level have been performed so I need to know if there is service that I am missing.
Faulty network stack and dns resolution issue within Windows 10 was the culprit. Mixing internal and external dns servers will cause that error. Try to join the domain now. The other thing to check is if you are getting auto IPv6 configs from your router.
If you are turn that stuff off on the router. Only your internal servers should be handing out IP info in a domain environment. I have tried all the above but the DNS it self fails to resolve. Nslookup fails to bring any records and ping to DC gives no host name found. I wrote this post, only after trying all these out. However Firewall is up and running. So I assume its a system server such as Lanmanworkstation or net logon.
Netlogon starts running in the background after the Workstation service has started. The Workstation service controls all network connections and shared devices using the Server Message Block protocol, a standard Windows network protocol. The dns of all internal corp resources are resolved only if netlogon service is up and running. My question is whether this service runs on machine which is not domain joined.
Other machine which were domain join did not have this service running up until domain join was completed. I see LANman workstation service running but not Netlogon. All internet sites and its dns are resolvable but not intranet internal DNS. Netlogon doesn’t run when a computer is not domain joined.
The normal status is startup set to manual. Once the computer is joined to the domain, the startup type is changed to Automatic. I have not have it handy right now.
I did have ipconfig results. Will post it tomorrow once I am back to work. Any other logs required? Along with the ipconfig results, whether or not you can ping the DC by both name and IP address would be helpful. This topic has been locked by an administrator and is no longer open for commenting.
